TREK Diagnostic Systems Introduces First FDA-Cleared MIC Plate with D-Test and Cefoxitin Screen at the ASM 108th General Meeting
Cleveland, Ohio — June 9, 2008 – TREK Diagnostic Systems presented a number of innovative products, including the new Sensititre® Gram positive MIC plates with D-Test and Cefoxitin Screen, as well as the VersaTREK® Automated Microbial Detection System, Sensititre® ARIS® 2X System and Vizion™ System*, at the 108th American Society for Microbiology (ASM) General Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts June 2-4, 2008.
As the world’s oldest and largest single life science membership organization, TREK chose ASM’s General Meeting to launch their new Sensititre® Gram positive MIC plates – the only MIC plates cleared by the FDA for D-Test and Cefoxitin screening. The new additions enable laboratories to eliminate additional offline tests procedures required to detect resistant organisms, saving valuable time and cost. The D-Test is commonly used to detect inducible Clindamycin resistance, while the Cefoxitin Screen procedure is the most sensitive test available to detect low-level Methicillin and Oxacillin (MRSA) resistance.
“The inclusion of D-Test and Cefoxitin Screen on our Gram positive plates will allow laboratories to better detect resistant organisms for overall better patient care,” commented TREK Diagnostic Systems’ Global Marketing Director, Jenny Lorbach. “The new MIC plate offers clinical laboratories the ability to streamline their test methods and reduce costs by eliminating offline testing and providing faster turnaround. Combined with the Vizion System* and SWIN® Software, it will improve testing, reporting and epidemiology of resistance mechanisms.”
TREK’s launch of the new Gram positive MIC plates was met with both interest and enthusiasm from the wide range of clinical microbiology attendees. Product demonstrations for the VersaTREK, ARIS 2X and Vizion System* were also available. TREK also distributed commemorative ASM 2008 giveaways for attendees to remember their trip to this year’s show in Boston.
