TREK Diagnostics Launches SWIN™ and ARIS® 2X to Fight Antimicrobial
Resistance
Cleveland, Ohio – March 30, 2004 – TREK Diagnostic Systems announced
the commercial release of its SWIN (Sensititre® for Windows®) Software and ARIS
2X automated ID/AST system today.
SWIN and ARIS 2X are an automated ID/AST system
developed for the microbiology laboratory to combat growing antimicrobial resistance
concerns.
SWIN Software is the new, user-friendly, one-touch package that streamlines
laboratory workflow. SWIN features an intelligent and customizable Expert System
to permit appropriate
intervention for organisms with unusual resistance patterns. The new software package
also offers unique and easy export of data results to EXCEL or ACCESS to ensure antibiogram
compliance
with current and future NCCLS recommendations, and distinct, color-coded identification
parameters to allow immediate recalculation of results, reducing labor and saving
costs.
“After seeing the Expert System, we were really sold on the overall product,” commented
Sandi Larison, MT (ASCP), Microbiology Supervisor at Grande Ronde Hospital in La
Grande, Oregon, who has been using SWIN software as a Limited Release customer since October
2003. “We
can honestly say we love the software. It is very user-friendly. We really like the
expert comments and the quality control package. The lab technologists here love the QC
module,
expert rules, and the ease-of-use.”
Offering improved automated plate inventory, reading,
and report capabilities, with no “reagent additions”, ARIS 2X provides consistent
performance, requires little maintenance and offers the fewest restrictions of any automated
ID/AST system.
“SWIN provides clinical microbiology laboratories with many options,” commented
Jenny Lorbach, Global Sensititre Product Manager. “The system provides an easy workflow
to setup and read ID and susceptibility plates. In addition, the Expert System provides
clinical accounts with an up-to-date list of important resistant profiles that can
be easily customized as needed. The system also provides a mechanism to easily export data
into Excel
or Access programs for additional data summaries.”
The Sensititre product line offers
the greatest number of FDA cleared antimicrobics, with the least number of restrictions,
which eliminates multiple offline test procedures
and saves time and expense for the laboratory. Sensititre’s true MIC readings in accordance
with NCCLS recommendations ensure accurate endpoint results leading to better patient
care. The excellent quality and consistent results of Sensititre products lead pharmaceutical
companies to choose Sensititre for surveillance studies and clinical trials, and
Sensititre’s
extended shelf life and room temperature storage simply inventory control concerns
and reduce storage and expiry costs.
